Platelet-rich plasma
PRP therapy for thinning hair
Platelet-rich plasma is prepared from a small sample of your own blood and injected into the thinning areas of the scalp. A non-surgical option the doctor may suggest after examining your scalp.
- Prepared from your own blood
- No incision, no stitches
- Out-patient sessions
How it works
What PRP is
Blood is made up of red cells, white cells, platelets and plasma. For PRP, a small sample of your blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge, which separates the platelet-rich plasma from the rest.
That concentrate is injected into the thinning areas of the scalp. Platelets carry growth factors, which is why PRP is used in hair loss treatment. It is usually planned as a course of sessions a few weeks apart, and can also be planned alongside a hair transplant.
